West Brom man 'struggling' to come to terms with one potential solution to end Leeds United promotion battle

West Bromwich Albion forward Charlie Austin says he struggles to see how footballing authorities could ever justify calling the season null and void - if they arrive at that decision.

The West Brom hotshot, believes that his side Albion can secure promotion back to the Premier League.

The Baggies, and promotion favourites Leeds United are both hoping that they can resolve the season by completing their fixture list with nine games remaining.

Both sides will be against a decision that voids the season, confirming another season in the second tier.

However, this is not a normal situation. The current pandemic means that careful consideration must be made before the season is resumed - and Austin has own feelings about cancelling the current season, touching on the personal bias certain clubs might feel.

“It’s a strange one. I can’t see how they’re going to do it, voiding the whole season,” West Brom's Austin told the Get The Ball On The Ground podcast. “What happens to football clubs and players financially?

“Obviously the bottom three in the Premier League are all going ‘void it, yeah, no problem’ and avoid relegation, but then what happens to the Championship teams, and in League One and Two?”

Voiding the season would mean that Leeds and West Brom would fail to achieve promotion in a season where it is looking to be the likely endgame - with the preferred option for players in the two camps being a proper conclusion to the campaign.
