West Brom make decision on James Shan's future as caretaker manager

West Brom caretaker James Shan has been told the role is his for the rest of the season.

Championship Albion provoked uproar when they sacked Darren Moore this month despite being fourth.

But the Baggies have enjoyed a bounce under Shan, the club’s former U23 coach who stepped up into the first team set-up when Moore took charge last April.

Shan has guided West Brom to successive victories over Swansea and Brentford without conceding a goal in his two games so far.

Shan, 40, was initially instructed to operate on just a match-by-match basis ahead of Birmingham’s visit in a televised clash on Friday.

But now Mirror Sport understands Shan has been told by his superiors to expect to remain in charge for the rest of the campaign.

Albion have eight games left to secure promotion straight back to the Premier League following their relegation last season.

They are seven points off automatic promotion but look certain for at least the play-offs.

Former Fulham and Watford boss Slavisa Jokanovic was the previous favourite for the post after two prior promotions.

But Albion chief executive Mark Jenkins has cooled his interest for now following Shan’s success.
