West Brom join Leeds United in support of Championship decision as rivals pen complaint letter

Here is your Leeds United morning digest for Tuesday, May 26.

West Brom join Leeds to dismiss Hull cancellation suggestion

West Brom have confirmed they will not back calls from Hull City to void the rest of the Championship season.

Tigers vice Chairman Ehab Allam has written to EFL chairman Rick Parry suggesting that resuming the season would harm the integrity of the competition.

So far, Hull have received no backing from other Championship clubs with table-toppers Leeds already stating they want to play the remaining nine matches of the campaign.

The Whites have now received support from their closest challengers West Brom who are also committed to playing the remaining fixtures.

“We certainly welcome the clarity the EFL have now provided as to its future intentions in terms of resolving the conclusion of the 2019/20 season,” West Brom chief executive Mark Jenkins wrote in a statement.

“However, let me say at the outset that West Bromwich Albion’s position in this remains the same now as it was back when fixtures were halted - the Club is resolutely behind finishing the campaign, if it is at all possible, where it belongs and that is on the pitch.”

Barnsley send letter of complaint over possible conclusion of season

Leeds’ Yorkshire rivals Barnley have sent a letter of complaint to the EFL making it clear that they will not accept relegation if the 2019/20 season is not restarted.

The Tykes would potentially be relegated if the remaining fixtures are not played but have complained to league bosses that such a scenario wouldn’t be fair, especially considering that other clubs are awaiting disciplinary hearings that could impact the final table.

Sheffield Wednesday and Derby were hit with misconduct charges over controversial sales of their stadiums to owners and could face points deductions if found guilty.

“How can anyone use the phrase ‘sporting integrity’ or the word ‘fair’ in any relegation scenario if the games aren’t played?” the letter states. “Two to three clubs pending punishments from EFL charges could change the current status of the Championship table."

Former Leeds star reveals secret behind teammate’s star performance

Carlton Palmer has revealed the unlikely secret behind Tony Yeboah’s memorable UEFA Cup hat trick against Monaco.

Former England midfielder Palmer played alongside the Ghaniain hitman at Elland Road, with the two helping the club qualify for Europe in 1995.

Speaking to the ‘ Quickly Kevin, Will he score? ’ Podcast, Palmer said the two had gone for a drink ahead of the match in the Principality with unexpected results.

"So, I said to him, you need to get some rest, son. It could be a tough gig tomorrow. So he starts having a brandy. I said to him, 'Tony, I really don't think this is a good idea mate.' He must have had about four large brandies. I said you get yourself to bed and don't say anything to the gaffer.

"The next day he scores a hat-trick. And he's shouting in the dressing room, 'it's the brandy, it's the brandy!'

"I'm going Tony, don't say that! The gaffer's going to be at me!"
