West Brom defender could miss opening day clash with Nottingham Forest

West Bromwich Albion's Ahmed Hegazi could miss his side's opening day clash with Nottingham Forest next month, according to a report by Express and Star.

The two sides will kick-off the SkyBet Championship season on Friday, August 3 at the City Ground, live on Sky Sports Football.

But Slaven Bilic's side could be without their Egyptian centre-half after the 28-year-old played for his nation at this summer's African Cup of Nations, despite nursing a foot injury.

The 6ft4inch defender picked up the injury late last term, and will arrive back in the West Midlands to see if he requires surgery that will see him sidelined for his side's clash with the Reds and beyond.

Last season Hegazi made 43 appearances for the Baggies and was vital in their charge to a fourth placed finish in the Championship and fought through the pain to play in their play-off semi-final defeat to Aston Villa.
