West Brom dealt blow in promotion race as the latest Leeds United injury news is revealed

Here are the latest Leeds United headlines as Marcelo Bielsa's men gear up for Thursday night's clash with Stoke City.

Injury latest

With the games coming thick and fast over the next two-and-a-half weeks, managing injuries will be a vital part of Leeds United's run-in.

Marcelo Bielsa was forced into two changes for his side's 3-1 win over Blackburn Rovers on Saturday in what was the first of six games in 18 season-defining days.

Stuart Dallas and Helder Costa missed out at Ewood Park having both picked up injuries in the midweek draw with Luton Town, with Ezgjan Alioski and Barry Douglas coming into the side.

Under usual circumstances, Bielsa is loathe to change his side, but with his hand forced Leeds were able to claim a seventh win in their last nine games and maintain their place at the top of the table.

Next up is Stoke City at Elland Road on Thursday, with Bielsa sounding confident Dallas and Costa would be available for selection again for the tea-time kick-off.

"They were close to playing today," the Argentine said following the Ewood Park victory. "We will see if they can play on Thursday."

Midfielder Mateusz Klich has admitted that he and his Leeds United teammates want to get the season wrapped up and achieve promotion as quickly as possible.

The Poland international played a key role in ensuring the Whites stayed at the top of the Championship table over the weekend, scoring the Whites' third goal in a hard-fought 3-1 win over Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park on Saturday afternoon.

After racing into a two-goal lead through Patrick Bamford's 14th Championship strike of the season and a sublime Kalvin Phillips free-kick, Marcelo Bielsa's side's advantage was halved just after half time when Rovers' Adam Armstrong fired home a brilliant free-kick of his own.

But Klich was on hand to restore the table-toppers' two-goal advantage and wrap up another important three points.

However, Leeds, just like the rest of their promotion rivals, can ill-afford to rest on their laurels, with the games coming thick and fast.

On Thursday, the Whites welcome Stoke City to Elland Road, and Klich has admitted that everyone is eager to pull on the shirt and just play football right now in an attempt to seal the end-goal.

West Brom lose key man

Leeds United have been handed a boost in the hunt for the Championship title as West Brom will be without Ahmed Hegazi for their midweek clash with Derby County.

The Baggies reduced Leeds' advantage to a single point once again after their victory against relegation-threatened Hull City on Sunday, setting up a fierce fight at the top to end the season.

While the objective for both clubs is to secure promotion to the Premier League, with Leeds 10-points off that target, a title win would be a significant achievement.

Leeds are in the driving seat but their advantage is slender, although they have received a boost ahead of the latest round of midweek matches.

Hegazi, who also scored against Hull, was shown a second yellow card and dismissed during the win, meaning he will not be available for the midweek clash with Derby County.

Given that the Rams are also chasing a play-off spot, that fixture is already a testing match-up but the fact they will be without the Egyptian makes things even more challenging.
