West Brom confirm Sam Allardyce as new manager after sacking Slaven Bilic

West Brom have confirmed the appointment of Sam Allardyce as their new manager after sacking Slaven Bilic.

Bilic was given his marching orders with the Baggies sitting 19th in the Premier League having amassed just seven points from their opening 13 fixtures.

They did claim an unlikely point at Manchester City on Tuesday evening, but the Croatian's fate had already been sealed.

It's Allardyce's first managerial position since leaving Everton in 2018 having previously begun his coaching career at the Hawthorns more than 30 years ago.

West Brom Sporting and Technical Director, Luke Dowling, said: “In Sam we have a man who has a proven Premier League pedigree with a track record of improving every club he has managed.

“We believe and, more importantly, Sam believes we have a group of players that have the quality needed to give the club its best chance of Premier League survival.”

The Baggies become Allardyce's eighth Premier League club, a record, having previously taken charge of Bolton, Newcastle, Blackburn, West Ham, Sunderland and Crystal Palace before taking the reins at Newcastle.

A survival specialist, the 66-year-old was immediately installed as the bookies' favourite after Bilic's departure was confirmed on Wednesday morning.

He has put pen to paper on an 18-month deal and will take training for the first time on Thursday ahead of a West Midlands derby against Aston Villa on Sunday evening.

Long-time assistant Sammy Lee joins him in moving to the Hawthorns.
