West Bridgford's posh new kebab shop Eva's Grill has opened (even the waitress used to work for Sat Bains)

An upmarket kebab shop has opened quashing the tradition of rolling home with a dirty doner after a drinking session.

Eva's Grill, in West Bridgford, brings a touch of class to traditional Greek and Turkish favourites, offering a three-course menu to eat in the licensed restaurant as well as takeaway.

The rotisserie meat is chicken and, instead of lamb, there's pork. Customers can order pitta bread filled with gyros, soulvaki, shish, Greek sausage or vegetarian halloumi - or swap the pitta for chips.

Grilled dishes, include kofte kebabs, chicken fillet, and lamb and pork chops or for a taste of home-cooking, opt for moussaka, veggie stuffed peppers known as gemista, or pastitsio, which is baked pasta with minced beef and bechamel sauce.

A meat sharing platter comes with accompaniments of onions, tomatoes, chips, homemade tzatziki and pitta, while the veggie version is laden with feta chese, mixed grilled vegetables, deep fried courgette, olives and hummus.

Completing the menu is a range of salads, such as classic Greek with feta and olives, and Caesar salad, and burgers.

Transformation of the restaurant, which was previously Crumbs sandwich bar in Radcliffe Road, is complete just in time to attract fans visiting the Cricket World Cup at Trent Bridge. It couldn't be handier, opposite the ground.

Owner Julian Koraqe, who hails from the Greek island Mytilini, said: "We are very happy. We think people will come in and say 'wow'.

"The first day was more than we expected. The cricket helped and we had a lot of people coming in.

"We are upmarket but we're not expensive."

Prices range from £4.95 for gyros pitta or burger to £24 for a mixed meat sharing platter. Starters include dips, kalamari, spanakopita and dolmas. And to end there's baklava or galaktoboureko, a Greek custard pie.

With space for nearly 30 people to eat in, the restaurant has been kitted out with copper-framed chairs at tables laid out with wine glasses, cutlery, napkins and posh glass salt and pepper sets.

The decor is as white as the buildings in Santorini - talking of which, there's a mural of the stunning Greek island livening up the wall.

Having previously worked as a chef at city centre restaurants including Zizzi, and the former Hard Rock Cafe, it was Julian's ambition to open his own business. "The dream has come true," he added.

His wife Klaudja will be running front of house, bringing with her five years' experience of two Michelin-starred service at Restaurant Sat Bains.

"It's about the welcome and making people feel at home," she said.

Eva's Grill will be open Monday to Thursday from 11.30am to 11.30pm, Friday and Saturday from 11.30 to 1am, and Sunday from 2-10pm.
