West Bridgford bar allowed to reopen after coronavirus breaches

A West Bridgford bar forced to close after breaching lockdown regulations on three occasions has been allowed to reopen.

Zinc, on Central Avenue, was closed last month after customers were seen mixing in groups and not adhering to social distancing guidelines.

The authority said this led to seven people testing positive for coronavirus and fined Zinc £2,000.

Nottinghamshire County Council Trading Standards and Rushcliffe Borough council Environmental Health officers have since been working with the bar’s proprietors to help them put systems in place to make the premises COVID-secure.

The bar now displays an official NHS QR code poster, is implementing social distancing measures, asking customers to wear a face covering when required, encouraging staff and customers to use hand sanitiser and is following legal requirements required to help tackle the rising number of cases.

Jonathan Gribbin, Director of Public Health at Nottinghamshire County Council, said: “We appreciate the efforts by the owners and are satisfied that they have taken reasonable steps to ensure the bar no longer presents a serious threat to the health of its customers and staff.

“We will continue to support businesses to help them adapt to new Covid-19 regulations and it is vital that businesses comply to help keep people safe, and to keep businesses open.

“As Nottinghamshire enters Tier 3, we all need to be extra vigilant and follow the measures in place to help reduce the spread of infection.”

From 6pm on Thursday, October 29, the Direction to Close notice was revoked.

The bar had also been fined £1,000 on September 25 for failing to put measures in place to record customer details for NHS track and trace purposes.

They had previously been served two lower fines for allowing customers to consume food and drink on the premises during earlier lockdown measures.
