West Bengal: Low pressure may intensify in 24 hours, says Meteorological office

KOLKATA: A low-pressure area has formed over northwest Bay of Bengal off the Bengal-Odisha coasts on Saturday under the impact of a cyclonic circulation. The circulation extends up to a height of 7.6km from the sea-level, said the Met office.

It is likely to become more marked over the next 24 hours.

The system could trigger light to heavy rain in Kolkata and across the coastal districts of Bengal between August 9 and 11, said weathermen. The city could receive heavy showers on Wednesday. "A low-pressure has formed and is likely to intensify over the next 24 hours. Coastal districts are likely to receive moderate to heavy showers. The city may receive consistent rain," said RMC director G K Das.

The CM might reschedule her programme and return from Delhi on Sunday, soon after attending the Niti Ayog meeting. She has plans to monitor the situation from Nabanna.
