West Bengal: Jobless youth shot dead over Rs 20,000 loan in Bhatpara

BARRACKPORE: A 32-year-old youth, who had lost his job due to the lockdown, was gunned down in front of his house at Bhatpara in North 24 Parganas late on Saturday night after he couldn't repay his loan. The bullet hit the head of the victim, Sikandar Das, who was declared brought dead at Bhatpara state general hospital. Cops have nabbed one person in connection with the incident. cops suspect that a monetary dispute might have led to the murder.

Locals said Das, a resident of Baro Srirampur under ward No. 35 of Bhatpara Municipality, used to work in a bag manufacturing unit at Belgharia’s Nandannagar but he had lost his job last year due to the Covid-induced lockdown.

The victim had borrowed Rs 20,000 from a local youth Munna Shaw alias Manu. But Sikandar didn't find any new job due to the pandemic and couldn't repay the loan. “Around11.30 pm on Saturday, Manu accompanied by his associate Sunil Shaw alias Sanu barged into Sikandar's house and shot at him,” said the victim’s father, Pradip.
