West Bengal: CPM activist murdered ‘for protesting underage marriage’

KOLKATA: A CPM activist was found allegedly murdered in South 24 Parganas’ Bishnupur on Thursday, days after he protested against an underage marriage in his locality of Jhulpia.

“Our party comrade Bidyut Mandal’s body was recovered today (Thursday). Mandal was a youth leader and took part in many social activities. He became a target after he protested against the marriage of an underage girl. A Trinamool leader who wanted to marry her didn’t like that Mandal got in his way,” said CPM South 24 Parganas secretary Shamik Lahiri.
