West Bengal Council meets school heads amid protest over HS marks

KOLKATA: The West Bengal Council for Higher Secondary Education officials met and spoke to headmasters of various schools in Kolkata and the districts amidst reports of protests and vandalism in some schools over dissatisfaction with the HS results.

The officials told the headmasters that they can approach the council with relevant documents and mark sheets within the next seven days. If any discrepancy is found, the council will make necessary corrections. The headmasters can visit the council’s office between 1pm and 5pm on all working days.

Around 45 HS candidates from Barasat Trinath Girl’s High School accompanied by their guardians put up a road blockade in front of Bikash Bhavan at Salt Lake for over half-an-hour. At Madhyamgram Chowmatha, hundreds of HS candidates from several schools blocked Jessore Road.

In Kharagpur, Krishnalal Siksha Niketan School students ransacked the campus. Students of RJ Viddyapith at Kharagpur’s Nimpura put up roadblocks on Malancha Main Road and Midnapore-Jhargram Road for over an hour. In South 24 Parganas, students gheraoed the headmaster of Ramchandranagar High School, Canning for several hours.

Students of Shri Folatola Chandrakanto High School in Raidighi and their guardians blocked a local road for two hours. In Burdwan, 50 students from Dhatrigram Girls High School blocked Kalna-Katwa Road. Students of Nadiha School in Durgapur also blocked a road.

In Malda, students of RN Ray Girls’ School blocked the state highway. Kharba Agril High School of Chanchal and Murshidabad witnessed similar unrest. In Hariharpara, 80 students of Swaruppur High School blocked Sundarpur-Hariharpara state highway.
