A man has been arrested after a woman came home to find her house broken into and the suspect asleep in the property.
The resident returned to her house in the Cavendish Square area of West Belfast on Thursday night to make the discovery.
Police say that just before 9pm the lady was “confronted by broken glass and a young man asleep in their home”.
In a Facebook post on their West Belfast page, police said: “They called us on 999 and crews were immediately tasked. We have arrested sleeping beauty - a 19 year old male - on suspicion of a number of offences including burglary, assaulting police and possession of a class B drug. He is currently helping with our enquiries.”
The police added that they are “also investigating three other burglaries in the Stewartstown Road, Clonavogie Gardens and Falls Road areas that were reported throughout the day yesterday”.
The post added: “While we do not believe any of these incidents are linked, please contact us if you see anyone acting suspiciously in your area.
“Remember to always keep doors locked, close and lock windows and doors at night or when your home is unoccupied, and don’t leave car keys near windows or doors - an opportunist criminal only needs a matter of seconds to steal your belongings!”
