West Belfast shooting incident probed by police

Police are investigating what they have described as a 'brutal' shooting incident in West Belfast late last night.

Officers were called to the scene in the Brooke Drive area of the city at around 10.40pm after three men forced their way into a house in the area.

Detective Inspector Kerry Brennan said: "We received a report at 10.40pm last night, October 12 that three men forced their way into a house in the area and shot a man, aged in his 40s in both ankles.

"The man is receiving medical attention for his injuries which are not thought to be life-threatening at present.

"We are treating this brutal shooting as a paramilitary style attack. This is despicable and should not happen in civilised society.

"An investigation is underway and I would urge anyone with any information to call detectives at Musgrave on 101 quoting reference number 2027 of 12/10/19.

"Information can also be given anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
