West Belfast security alert deemed a hoax after "suspicious object" was found

A security alert that took place following the discovery of a "suspicious object" in West Belfast on Saturday evening has ended.

The PSNI have now deemed that the object found in the Glasvey Drive area of the city was a hoax after two controlled explosions were carried out.

On August 14, a spokesperson for the Police Service of Northern Ireland said: "Police are currently dealing with a security alert in the Glasvey Drive area of west Belfast following the discovery of a suspicious object.

"There are no further details at present."

On Sunday, they added: "A security alert in the Glasvey Drive area of west Belfast has ended following the report of the discovery of a suspicious object yesterday evening (Saturday 14 August)

"Police and Ammunition Technical Officers attended the scene, and two controlled explosions were carried out on the object, which is being deemed as a hoax.

"The remains of the object has since been removed for further forensic examination.

"All cordons have been lifted and police would like to thank the local community for their patience as we worked to make the area safe."
