West Belfast primary school sends interesting 'we miss you' message to pupils

Staff at a primary school in West Belfast have made a special video for their pupils to say they are missing them.

Everyone from cleaners to the Headmaster at John Paul II Primary School on Whiterock Road decided to start off this week's on-line learning with a difference.

Children were greeted on Monday morning with a surprise link embedded in their work.

The video - edited by a staff member to the soundtrack of the pupils unofficial assembly anthem ‘Try Everything’ - has an interesting slant on the football-kicking theme of other school videos produced during the lockdown.

The whole school staff community of John Paul II - teachers, classroom assistants, lunchtime supervisors, cleaners, canteen manager and caretaker - all pass spoons until they end up in the able hands of school principal Mr Hunter.

He told Belfast Live: “Some children have experienced some of my spoon-playing in the past when soup is served on Fridays. I can't help myself when 130 spoons are sitting on the table during the second setting.

“This time the children had a much-needed laugh and they told us so in their feedback. They also have the video evidence now to share as well. It didn't do the staff’s morale any harm either.”

He added: “In the final analysis, and irrespective of the times we live in, education has to be fun whether it’s in school or at home. Children learn best and learn more when we are all having a laugh.

“What's next you might ask? We have other plans in the coming weeks - keep watching...”
