West Belfast police investigating barbaric act after cat killed and set alight

Police are investigating after a cat was killed and then apparently set on fire in West Belfast.

The remains of the animal were found by a walker on Saturday morning in Falls Park.

PSNI Sergeant David McKinley described the treatment of the cat as "barbaric".

He said: "The white cat was discovered at around 10.30am this morning by a woman walking in the park.

"At this time it appears as though the animal has been killed and then set alight.

"This was a barbaric act and I am appealing to local people to assist us in identifying those involved. Please call 101, quoting reference 540 16/05/20."

A PSNI spokesperson said:"We are investigating after a cat was apparently killed and set alight in Falls Park, Belfast.

"The animal was found this morning by a woman walking in the park."
