West Belfast police arrest two on suspicion of attempted murder

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder over an alleged West Belfast hammer attack.

A man in his 20s was treated for injuries in hospital following the Beechmount Avenue incident in the early hours of Wednesday.

It was reported that he was struck with a hammer by one man while a second stood nearby with a firearm, and that the injured man managed to flee.

Investigating PSNI detectives say they made the two arrests this morning.

Detective Sergeant Corrigan added: "Two men aged 30 and 29-years-old were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and other offences.
