A pensioner in their 80s had their car stolen before it was crashed into a garden in West Belfast.

PSNI said the victim woke up at around 5.40am on Monday, July 19, to find their silver Ford Fiesta being driven away from the St James' area.

A spare car key and handbag are also reported to have been taken in the incident.

The car was later found crashed, destroying a garden wall and a parked car, with the suspect thought to be around 17-years-old.

PSNI Detective Fairfield said: “It was reported that sometime around 5.40am this morning the property owner, who is in their 80s, woke to find their silver Ford Fiesta being driven away. A spare car key was stolen as well as the victim’s handbag.

“Subsequently the vehicle crashed a short time later destroying a garden wall and damaging a parked vehicle. The suspect then made off on foot towards the Donegall Road.

“The suspect is described as wearing a North Face jacket, shorts and is approximately 17-years-old.

“Enquiries are ongoing and we are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity in the area or who may have dashcam footage to contact detectives at Musgrave station quoting reference number 314 19/07/21.
