West Belfast homes evacuated into early hours following security alert

A number of West Belfast homes were evacuated and streets closed following a security alert over night.

Police say they attended Falcarragh Drive around 11.30pm on Sunday following a report of a suspicious object in the front garden of a house.

An investigation then got underway and the object was examined.

It has now been declared an "elaborate hoax" but has been taken away for forensic testing.

Residents were allowed to return home around 4am.
