West Belfast hijacking "traumatic ordeal for man going about his business", police say

A man "simply going about his business" is reported to have had his car hijacked in a "traumatic ordeal" in West Belfast on Monday night.

Police said the incident on Kingsway in Dunmurry was reported just before 7.20pm.

It is understood the man, who was driving a grey-coloured Volkswagen Golf - registration JHZ 5055 - was standing at the boot of his car on when another male approached him, pushed him and then got into his vehicle and drove off.

Anyone who may have dashcam footage is being asked to contact the PSNI.

Detective Sergeant Nugent said: "This was a traumatic ordeal for the victim who was simply going about his business when this occurred.

"We are appealing for anyone who witnessed this incident, or who believes they know the whereabouts of the Golf, to get in touch with us.

"We're also appealing to drivers who were in the area around this time and who may have captured what happened on their dash cam, or the movements of the Golf after it was taken, to call 101, quoting reference number 1687 of 14/12/20.

"You can also submit a report online using our non-emergency reporting form via http://www.psni.police.uk/makeareport or call Crimestoppers anonymously on  0800 555 111."
