West Belfast GAA club suspends activity after positive Covid-19 test

A West Belfast GAA club has suspended all activity for two weeks after a player tested positive for Covid-19.

Gort na Mona CLG issued a statement on Tuesday and said it would be shutting its doors until August 26 at the earliest.

"One of our players has unfortunately tested positive for Covid-19. As such the club will be closed for the next fortnight, with a view to reopening on Wednesday 26th August subject to a health and safety review," the club said in a statement.

"No training, matches or other activities in any code will take place in the meantime."

The club said it would be carrying out a number of safety measures after taking advice from Public Health Agency.

Those measures will include:

  • contacting the player and identifying their close contacts
  • contacting the close contacts and advising them to self isolate for 14 days
  • advising via the PHA contact tracing cell if any further action is needed.

Club GAA games restarted last month following a four-month absence due to the coronavirus pandemic.

A number of Ulster clubs have already been forced to close for short periods after members tested positive for Covid-19.
