West Belfast fire: Ground floor of derelict block of flats in the Lenadoon area alight

Firefighters have been tackling a blaze in an area of West Belfast this evening.

Appliances from the NIFRS were deployed after reports of a fire on the ground floor of a five-storey block of derelict flats in the Corrib Avenue area of Lenadoon on Monday, December 6.

All persons are accounted for and fire service appliances remain at the scene.

Group Commander O'Hare said: "Crews are dealing with an ongoing fire in the Corrib Avenue area of Suffolk.

"The fire is on the ground floor of a five-storey block of derelict flats. All persons are accounted for and a second search is ongoing."

NIFRS apparatus currently on Corrib Avenue include four breathing apparatus firefighters and a covering jet.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

It's understood there is currently no police presence at the scene at this time.
