West Belfast community to hold first ever PRIDE event

Lagmore Youth Project will celebrate PRIDE Month 2021 with a social action colour run and barbecue on Friday.

The first event of its kind ever to be organised in the area will highlight issues faced by young people from the LGBTQ+ community including poor mental health, social isolation, and homophobia.

The Colour Run will be completed in a loop leaving from White Rise Bus Terminal on Friday June 25 taking a route along Lagmore View, Lagmore Avenue, Hazel Close and Lagmore Road.

Entry is £5 and all participants will be given a t-shirt, sunglasses, a bottle of water and the barbecue will take place following the run with all proceeds will go towards supporting LGBTQ initiatives.

Organiser Arón Hughes said: “This is the first colour run ever held in the Colin Area and we are proud it is being held to celebrate Pride Month to draw attention to the issues faced by young people who are members of the LGBTQ+ community.

"The colour run is an inclusive event and is open to everyone, young or old, walkers and runners.”

Anne Anderson Porter from Co-operation Ireland said: “The incredible work the young people of Lagmore Youth Project have put into this social action programme and the good relations work they have carried out in the lead up to the Colour Run is an inspiration and we are proud to be able to support them.

"As an organisation we work to ensure diversity and inclusion in all its forms and welcome the promotion of this event during Pride month."

The event has been organised in partnership with peace building charity Co-operation Ireland as part of the Youth Network for Peace initiative funded by the EU’s PEACE IV (SEUPB) programme.
