West Belfast child to star in new CITV show Makeaway Takeaway

A West Belfast youngster is set for the big screen after landing an exciting role on a new CITV show.

11-year-old Michéal Maxwell, from Clonard, was once a shy child, but today he has set his sights on TV success and his confidence is booming.

The show, Makeaway Takeaway, will air in the Autumn time and has been described as the 'deliveroo of the art world' bringing creative solutions to arty dilemmas.

It is presented by comedian extraordinaire Bec Hill, who Michéal will present his own episode alongside.

Speaking to Belfast Live, mum Máire said: "He has always been a shy wee boy. He went to St Clare's School and now he is a first year at St Louise's. Between both schools and ourselves he has gained a huge amount of confidence.

"Where it started was when he got sent home with a play in school, Little Red Riding Hood. He came home and done it all in one take. I thought it was so good so I put it on my Facebook and the response was amazing. He grew a bit of a fan base from there. When he was doing the play he was all these different characters, it was like a one man show.

"A very good friend of mine got in touch and told me about a programme on CITV which was looking for young people to take part. It's a brand new show called Makeaway Takeaway, she told me.

"I had a chat with Michéal and he said 'why not mummy' so we went for it and he got through to the next stage. This is a UK-wide show and he got the news that he'd got the part in the show. We were all just so delighted."

Mum Máire said she has been bursting with pride for her young son and thanked his two schools, St Clare's and St Louise's for their constant support.

She added: "The support from our family and friends has been amazing. We are so thankful for that.

"Michéal is going to have his own episode and he'll be presenting it with Bec Hill. It'll air around Autumn/Winter time and we can't wait to see it.

"I always had a good feeling about the show because he was always very natural. He was never prompted or forced to do anything. It's a talent I don't think you can be taught - it is just part of him.

"He has never taken a drama class in his life and I wonder where he gets it from. He is just a really good child with so much confidence now. He was always so shy and wouldn't have spoken to anyone."
