West Belfast boxing club unveils mural for two-time Olympian Brendan Irvine

A brilliant new mural of two-time Olympian Brendan Irvine has been unveiled at St Paul's Boxing Club in West Belfast.

Irvine has been named as Ireland team captain for this year's Tokyo Olympics.

It will be the second time he has competed at the Games after fighting at Rio in 2016.

It is the latest proud moment in the 25-year-old's life, and St Paul's have shown their own pride by getting a mural done in his honour.

Irvine was one of the guests at St Paul's on Friday night when the mural was officially unveiled by Belfast Lord Mayor Kate Nicholl.

Fellow Tokyo Olympian Kurt Walker was also in attendance alongside family and friends.

"I am very proud to have a mural like this done at St Paul's," Irvine told Belfast Live.

"It is unbelievable the support I get from the club, and Belfast in general.

"I can't even describe how it feels to represent your country at an Olympic Games, let alone being team captain.

"It is something I will be proud of for the rest of my life.

"The Rio Olympics in 2016 were a learning curve for me. I was beaten by the champion, and it is all learning and part of the journey.

"Winning a medal in Tokyo would be the icing on the cake, especially after everything I have come through over the past couple of years. Setback after setback.

"I think we are more than capable of achieving so much at these Games."
