West Belfast actor set to star in Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg's new TV series

West Belfast actor Anthony Boyle is set to star alongside Hollywood A-lister Tom Hanks in a new World War II series directed by Steven Speilberg.

Variety reports that 26 year old Boyle has signed on to star in Apple's World War II drama "Masters of the Air", a continuation of the “Band of Brothers”/”The Pacific” franchise from Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks.

Boyle will star alongside previously announced cast members Callum Turner and Austin Butler.

"Masters of the Air" is based on the book of the same name by Donald L. Miller. It follows the true story of the American bomber boys in World War II who brought the war to Hitler’s doorstep.

Boyle will star as Major Crosby in the series.

Writing about the news today on Instagram, Boyle said: "Great day for the parish."

The news follows on Boyle gaining a remarkable reputation in the film and TV industry for his acting.

He previously starred in 2019 film Tolkein, and has appeared in TV shows ranging from local comedy Derry Girls to thriller Patrick Melrose.

The actor is also is set to play a leading role in a new BBC drama series, which has a working title of 'Danny Boy'.

According to the BBC, the series follows the story of "a young man's journey from medal-winning war hero to alleged murderer, and his search for truth in the fog of war".

It's not yet known when "Masters of the Air" will come to Apple.
