West Allotment boost as top goalscorer Shane Jones turns down offers to move on

Northern League Division Two promotion contenders West Allotment Celtic have received a boost with the news that top goalscorer Shane Jones has rejected a number of offers to remain with the club.

The former Heaton Stannington player has scored 18 goals in 16 appearances in all competitions to help his side to second place in the Division Two table and into the first round of the FA Vase.

That form has seen Jones capture the attention of a number of clubs from the Northern League’s top tier – and Allotment manager Jay Bates confirmed that he has several enquiries for the attacking midfielder.

Three of those enquiries led to seven-day approaches from three Division One clubs – but Jones has rejected those offers to remain at Druid Park.

Bates told ChronicleLive: “Shane had interest and had approaches from Division One clubs - but the management team, committee and players are all delighted to have secured him for the season.

“He would have been a hard player to replace because he has been creating a lot of chances and his goalscoring record speaks for itself this season.

“I am glad that we can put the last week behind us and we can focus on the rest of the season.

“There have been messages flying around to and from Shane to get him sorted here and I am pleased that he will be staying with the club.”

Jones will be in the West Allotment squad when they travel to Lincolnshire to face Northern Counties East League club Bottesford Town in the FA Vase first round on Saturday.
