Wesley Fofana stance, Marc Cucurella latest and Chelsea transfer decisions facing Todd Boehly

DannyBlue: Do you expect Wesley Fofana to submit a transfer request, and if so, what impact is this likely to have on negotiations?

Adam says: "Submitting an official transfer request is always the biggest step a player can take as it usually means they lose out on a loyalty bonus. I've been told Fofana is putting pressure on Leicester internally and externally amid Chelsea's interest as he is very keen to move.

"However, Leicester are adamant that they do not want to sell this summer, so Chelsea will have to go very big with their bid if they are to change that stance."

Leywin: What's your opinion on Ruben? Do you think he has a place in the squad, or will Chelsea use him in a potential deal/swap?

Adam says: "I'll be honest and state there are few players I enjoy watching more than Loftus-Cheek when he's on his game – someone his size shouldn't be able to shift their feet so quickly. Is that enough to keep him around? Potentially.

"No club can have a squad of 25 all-stars; coaches need players that are happy to play bit-part roles, and Loftus-Cheek appears one of those. He is very settled, lives close to the training ground, and is happy to be involved at Chelsea. Throw in his wages (around £150,000 per week), and it's difficult to identify many genuine landing spots for the midfielder. So I suspect he'll stay."

thevipersnest: What are the odds that we'll see 'deadwood' like Ross Barkley, Michy Batshuayi and Kenedy leave before the season kicks off?

Adam says: "The age-old Chelsea question! The season kicks off on four days, so I don't think it's likely they'll be moved on before then. There's been some interest shown in each of the three players you've named, but nothing has come from it as yet. Part of the reason for that is few clubs can match the salaries these guys are on at Chelsea, and another is there will be little appetite to pay a significant transfer fee.

"My personal view is that if transfers do not materialise in the coming weeks for the likes of Barkley, Kenedy and Batshuayi, Chelsea would be best served to strike agreements which see them leave the club on free transfers. Chelsea need to get away from this idea of keeping players contracted in the hope that suddenly they find value in the market."

smoothe1: Chelsea missed out on Raphinha and Jules Kounde seemingly on club reputation. Yet Marc Cucarella considers us attractive. How does Chelsea stack up in prestige in the eyes of players? Will we always chase Barca and the like? Is the Thomas Tuchel project attractive?

Adam says: "I think it – and always will – come down to player preference. Barcelona are obviously a huge, huge draw for a lot of players given the club's history, those who've come before, and the fact the climate in Spain is perhaps a little nicer than London!

"Yet Chelsea can attract players too, we've seen that over the years many times and now with Cucurella and Fofana. So I wouldn't worry too much about Chelsea's standing in Europe. It's still strong."

DannyBlue: If the links to Frenkie de Jong are true, where would you see him fitting into the squad? Would you expect a player to leave to make way for his signing?

Adam says: "In terms of Frenkie de Jong, Chelsea have a long-held interest from his Ajax days, and Thomas Tuchel is an admirer. But I don't believe his signing is near the top of the club's agenda right now. As suggested, there are several midfielders already in the squad – Jorginho, N'Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Conor Gallagher, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Billy Gilmour, even Ethan Ampadu – and one or more would have to depart."

Ayechan: How are the contract situations of N'Golo Kante and Jorginho? Will their future be affected if de Jong is signed by Chelsea?

Adam says: "Thomas Tuchel ideally wanted Jorginho and Kante's contracts sorted this summer as he didn't want another season of uncertainty hanging over two key players. That hasn't happened with Todd Boehly's focused (understandably) on bringing in signings and sorting outgoings.

"Discussions over contracts are expected in September; Jorginho and Kante will very much hold the power then as they will be free to speak to other clubs from January. De Jong: Chelsea is interested but not a priority right now. Focus is on the defence."

TrueBlueChelsea: Is there any interest in Wilfried Zaha and Adama Traore? What's the update on Ross Barkley and Michy Batshuyai?

Adam says: "I've not heard anything on Zaha – although that doesn't ever mean there's nothing in the report – and while Traore does have a fan at Chelsea in Thomas Tuchel, an approach for the Wolves winger certainly doesn't appear to be imminent.

"Barkley and Batshuyai, it's a case of finding clubs willing to take them on. Chelsea are very much open to offers for the two, but nothing serious has arrived as yet."
