Wesley Fofana names Liverpool star who 'wants to do damage' as toughest opponent

Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana has named Liverpool striker Sadio Mane as the toughest opponent he's faced in the Premier League.

Fofana moved to Leicester from Saint-Etienne last summer and enjoyed an excellent debut campaign in English football.

Despite his tender years, the 20-year-old quickly established himself in Brendan Rodgers' side and was a key part of their FA Cup success and Champions League push, which ultimately fell just short with a fifth-place finish.

But Fofana has been unable to build on that fine debut campaign after suffering a broken leg in pre-season against Villarreal.

On Wednesday night, Fofana spoke to some of his followers on social media in a Spaces conversation and he was asked who has been the most challenging opponent in English football so far.

"Sadio Mane," was his response. "When I was in 1 vs 1 situations with him, it was very, very tough. Each duel, each time he gets the ball, he wants to do damage."

Last season, Liverpool romped to a 3-0 win at Anfield over Leicester, with Fofana playing on the right of a back three where he frequently found himself up against Mane on Liverpool's left.

The Foxes did earn a measure of revenge when the two sides met in February at the King Power Stadium, winning 3-1 with the help of a late collapse from the Reds.

However, Fofana wasn't available for that game because of a thigh problem.

After an inconsistent 2020-21 season, Mane has looked back to his best again in the current campaign, chipping in with six Premier League goals from 11 appearances already.
