Wesley Fofana makes Chelsea transfer admission after fresh link to Stamford Bridge move

Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana has admitted that he ‘dreams’ of a move to Chelsea following fresh reports linking him with a switch to Stamford Bridge.

The Frenchman, who joined the Foxes from Saint Etienne last summer, impressed highly in his debut Premier League campaign.

He made 38 appearances in all competitions during his first season at the King Power Stadium and was a fundamental performer behind Brendan Rodgers’ men lifting the FA Cup, as well as earning a fifth-placed finish in the league.

Despite that promising start, he has seen his second term hugely curtailed by injury having suffered a broken leg in a pre-season clash with Villarreal.

That has not stopped the defender from being linked with a move away though and it is suggested by Foot Mercato that Chelsea have initiated contact with Fofana regarding a potential move to Stamford Bridge, having previously been interested in his services ahead of his injury.

It is thought that the Blues believe the young Frenchman as an ideal replacement for Antonio Rudiger, who sees his current deal at Stamford Bridge expire at the end of the campaign.

Amid the fresh reports, Fofana has admitted that a move to Chelsea, alongside a number of Premier League rivals, as well as prominent clubs in Spain would be on his agenda in the future.

Talking in a Twitter Space with Actufoot, the 20-year-old said: “There is Marseille, Real Madrid, Barcelona. In the Premier League, Chelsea, Man United, Man City… but you have to work to achieve your dreams. Through work, you can succeed in it all.”

The comments will certainly be of interest to Chelsea and Thomas Tuchel as they aim to add to their defensive options. They have already been linked with Fofana’s countryman Jules Kounde but failed to secure a deal last summer.

The Leicester man’s contract does not expire until the summer of 2025.

Of course, Chelsea take on Fofana’s current employers in the Premier League this weekend as they travel to the King Power Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
