Wes Thomas insists fierce rivalry between Notts County strikers is driving up their standards

Wes Thomas feels the the quality of Notts County's forwards has created serious competition for places but insists it is a healthy rivalry.

The Magpies have seen all their strikers get on the scoresheet this season with Kristian Dennis leading the way with four goals this term and followed by Wes Thomas and Kyle Wootton, who have two each.

Nathan Tyson has also got off the mark this term with Neal Ardley having a plethora of options at his disposal and the Notts boss has not been afraid to pair-up different forwards.

And Thomas, who started the last game against Halifax, says all the strikers at the club are pushing each other in a bid to become regular names on the team sheet.

“We all want to be in the starting 11, so it’s pushing all of us,” he said.

“It’s tough but it’s something you want to be part of.

“We all get on really well. There’s no bitterness between us.

“We understand that if you’re doing the business, you deserve your place.”

Thomas feels he could have scored more goals than the two he has scored so far this season having hit the bar against Yeovil and spurning a good chance against Halifax last weekend.

But he feels it will not be too long before he is firing on a regular basis.

“I always feel that, with the way I play, I’m going to get opportunities,” he said.

“I try not to focus on the chances I’ve had, thinking ‘I should have put that away.’ I always just think ‘I’m going to score goals' and try to stay positive on the situation.

“Eventually I’m going to go on a run. I said to the boys that I’ll probably score five in a game soon!”
