Dancing on Ice latest: Wes Nelson puts injury behind him as takes on the famous headbanger

Wes Nelson bounced back from a bad injury to score a massive 34 for his fairytale-themed Dancing On Ice routine.

The 20-year-old and his partner Vanessa Bauer took inspiration from Peter Pan for their jam-packed skate to Rewrite The Star, from The Greatest Showman.

Nelson - who recently split from girlfriend Megan Barton Hanson - perfectly executed the headbanger, with the Love Island star describing it as a “scary” routine while Bauer gushed over his talent.

Nelson’s Sunday got even better when Christopher Dean got up form his chair to shake his hand, congratulating him on the routine.

Even Jason Gardiner lavished praise on the star, telling him that he had started to “step up” and that he was “reaching for the stars”.

But Nelson's place on the top of the leaderboard wasn't to be as James Jordan and Alexandra Schauman stormed to success with 36.5.

Earlier in the week, fans had feared for Nelson’s place in the competition after he took a bad fall in training.

The star revealed on Tuesday that he had crashed to the ground during rehearsals, leaving him with an egg-shaped lump on his knee.

He said he was in “a lot of pain” but was hoping to get back out on the rink soon, as well as being plagued by the “worst cold” which was impacting his breathing and eating.

The fall came just days after his personal life hit the headlines when he split from Barton Hanson.

Dancing On Ice continues Sunday at 6pm on ITV.
