Wes Martin thrilled to learn under line coach Bill Callahan

Washington Redskins Day 3 pick Wes Martin has a serious chance at starting as a rookie.

This in part has to do with the team’s big need at guard. It also has to do with Martin.

But don’t forget offensive line coach Bill Callahan.

Martin sure hasn’t, considering he called Callahan “debatably the best in the world”, according to Peter Hailey of NBC Sports Washington.

“I’m just focusing on learning the system, getting acclimated and just pushing myself to be the best that I can,” Martin said. “It’s a big change, a big jump. There’s a lot to learn, a lot to get used to.”

It’s easy to lose sight of a prospect like Martin in a class like this. The Redskins had two first-round picks and added other notables later.

Martin was a bit of an afterthought by the time he came off the board. But if he has a big rookie showing, he’ll simply be the latest Callahan project to do so.
