Wes Martin continues his dog rescue efforts in spare time

Washington Redskins rookie guard Wes Martin is much more than a simple football player.

Every player has hobbies, of course. But Martin’s is especially endearing — he runs a dog rescue.

Martin has teamed with his mom to start a nonprofit rescue called Brave Breed Rescue, according to the Associated Press’ Stephen Whyno.

“It’s just been my mom’s calling, I guess. She’s been doing it her whole life and then I adapted it from her and started the rescue,” Wes said. “It means the world to me to be able to save at-risk dogs that if we weren’t able to step in, a lot of them would be headed to euthanasia.”

It’s an awesome hobby for anyone to have, though Martin admits he’s wildly busy as a pro player now, so he’s thankful to have help from those around him.

On the field, there is a chance Martin could end up starting as a rookie too. But if we fast forward to next summer, it won’t take many guesses to figure out what occupies most of Martin’s time.
