Wes Hoolahan wins League Two Player of the Month award

Wes Hoolahan has landed the League Two Player of the Month award for his fine form with Cambridge United.

The former Ireland star, 38, picked up the award after registering two goals and two assists for the table-toppers in the fourth tier.

United recorded four wins and two draws from the month to claim 14 points from six matches, beating Grimsby Town, Harrogate Town, Southend United and Crawley Town and drawing against Colchester United and Bradford City.

Hoolahan, 38, netted against Harrogate and Crawley on the way to claiming the award.

"It’s been a great month. We won so many games and went through January unbeaten, so it really has been a positive month,” Hoolahan said.

“It’s certainly been nice to get the assists and a couple of goals to go with it. I’m delighted to win this award, but I couldn’t have done it without any of the other lads.

“It’s going really well, I’m hoping we can continue this journey and pick up plenty more points along the way.”

Hoolahan turned down Cambridge in the summer of 2019 to join Australian club Newcastle Jets but signed a one-year deal in July 2020 and has proven to be a fan favourite this season for the promotion-chasers.
