Wes Hoolahan set for Cambridge United trial

Wes Hoolahan is set to join Cambridge United on a trial period.

The Ireland veteran, 37, is without a club since leaving West Brom at the end of last season.

The attacking midfielder, who made more than 300 appearances for Norwich City, worked under Cambridge boss Colin Calderwood when he was assistant manager to Chris Hughton at Carrow Road.

Hoolahan scored 47 goals during his time at Norwich and also made 43 appearances for the Republic of Ireland.

He only made 10 appearances for West Brom last season, in a campaign which saw the Baggies reach the Championship play-offs.

Hoolahan retired from international football after Ireland's exit from the World Cup at the play-off stage to Denmark.

He scored three goals - most famously striking against Sweden at Euro 2016.
