Wes Hoolahan donates massive amount to Temple Street Children's Hospital

Former Ireland star Wes Hoolahan paid more than just a visit to Temple Street Children's Hospital this afternoon, as he handed over a massive donation from the proceeds of his testimonial game.

The former Norwich City man presented the hospital with a cheque for €18,700 which was raised from the charity game in May.

Staff from Temple Street thanked the local lad for his generous donation in a statement released on social media which read: "We are so grateful to Wes for the wonderful donation he has made to Temple Street.

"Thank you Wes! The money you have raised is going to fund vital lifesaving equipment for our little patients here in Temple Street.

"We are thrilled to have you as a great friend and support of our special hospital."

The 37-year-old was raised in the north inner city, not far from Temple Street and had pledged to donate the cash when the testimonial was first announced.

The attacking midfielder left the Carrow Road club in May 2018 after spending 10 seasons there.

He established himself as a Canaries fan favourite, making 352 appearances and scoring 54 goals.

He also made 43 appearances for the Republic of Ireland before retiring from international football in 2017.

He represented his country in the European Championship Finals in 2016, scoring in the opening game against Sweden.

After leaving Norwich, Hoolahan spent last season with West Bromwich Albion, making 10 appearances for the Midlands club.

It was recently announced that he would be heading down under for the 2019/20 season having signed for Australian side Newcastle Jets.
