Wes Foderingham in Rangers allegation as goalkeeper reveals brutal Steven Gerrard conversation

Wes Foderingham has accused Rangers of pricing him out a move and says Steven Gerrard froze him out of the first team.

In a brutally honest account of his last two years at Ibrox the goalkeeper claimed Gerrard wouldn’t let him train with the main body of the squad.

Foderingham is a free agent after five years at Ibrox and is expected to return to England where he had spells with Swindon Town, Crystal Palace and Fulham.

Signed by Mark Warburton in 2015, the 29-year-old helped Rangers seal a return to the top flight in his first season.

He remained first choice under Pedro Caixinha and Graeme Murty too. But he knew the writing was on the wall when Gerrard made McGregor his first signing in 2018.

He told Open Goal : “When Gerrard got the job I was in Dubai and he was actually staying in the same hotel as me.

“He grabbed a quick chat saying this is what he planned to do.

“He told me the club was 95 per cent down the road with a deal for McGregor. He said whoever deserves to play will play.

“I knew by bringing him in as manager we were going up a level and the onus was on me to raise my level.

“When McGregor came in it was always the club’s intention to sell me that summer.

“I had a meeting with the manager and he basically said ’you’re not my type of person’ which I found strange.

“He didn’t go into any real great depth but he questioned my willingness to be there and to fight for a position. I don’t think I showed I wasn’t willing to fight for my place.

“At this point I wasn’t even training with the main team. I trained with the goalies but when we went into the main session I had to stay over. I just couldn’t believe what was happening.

“So I thought I was leaving that summer. I spoke to my agent and he said the club wanted X amount. But no clubs were biting at that amount.

“The club said I wasn’t going on loan, they wanted that figure so I was priced out of a move at that point.

“As time goes on your price drops but it wasn’t a realistic figure for me to get out at that point.”

Despite making only 13 appearances in the last two years Foderingham insists he will look back fondly on his time at Ibrox.

He said: “I’ve spent five years here and it’s been the best part of my career. It’s a shame I’m not going to get the chance to say goodbye to the fans or the staff. That’s difficult.

“At the time I wasn’t sure how it was going to pan out but I can look back and honestly say my game has improved from being at Rangers.

“Allan McGregor is a legend. A top goalkeeper. He works so hard but away from football he is so laid back. He is irate on the pitch but so laid back and funny off it.

“I have experienced some great memories and highs and lows I will take with me.

“There is some interest from down south, so I will see what happens and hopefully I can get something sorted soon.”
