Wes Brown lifts lid on Sir Alex Ferguson's greatest Manchester United team-talk

Wes Brown believes Sir Alex Ferguson's team talk prior to Manchester United's 2008 Champions League triumph was the best he heard under the legendary boss.

The Reds were crowned Champions of Europe once again after edging past Chelsea via a penalty shootout on that rainy night in Moscow.

Cristiano Ronaldo's opener was cancelled out by Frank Lampard but Edwin van der Sar's save to deny Nicolas Anelka ensured their name was etched on the trophy for the third time.

Ferguson was at the helm for over two decades and helped United reach the pinnacle of English football, becoming the most successful football team in the country.

During the 2007-08 season, they had already won the Premier League pipping the Londoners to the post by just two points thanks to their final day win over Wigan.

Brown started the final and was brought off in the dying embers of extra-time but it was his talk before the match that stands out.

"It was the best team talk I heard the gaffer do," he said speaking to the Daily Mail.

"He went around every player, said a few things about where they’d come from and what they had achieved.

"The message was about a group all coming from different places, nobody growing up the same, but we were all here now, United. It was very good, inspiring.

"The game was a real battle. Cristiano scored from my cross, Frank Lampard equalised. Chelsea had the same mentality as us, nobody would give in, so it went to penalties.

"The gaffer took me off near the end of extra-time and I felt this enormous sense of relief afterwards because I’d not taken penalties since I was 14. It doesn’t work for all managers but it did that night, Anderson scored in the shoot-out and we won it."
