Werder Bremen interested in Manchester United Tahith Chong loan transfer

Werder Bremen are leading the race to sign Manchester United winger Tahith Chong on loan this summer.

United are looking at a number of loan moves for their youngsters next season with Chong and James Garner headlining the list of expected short-term departures.

The Dutch winger signed a new two-year deal at Old Trafford back in March and is set to spend next season away from the club as he looks to make the breakthrough into senior men's football.

Chong made his debut under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer against Reading last season, but has featured just 12 times for United during the current campaign, and is yet to feature since football restarted in June. He came on as a substitute in the 2-1 victory over LASK and played at left-back.

A move to the Bundesliga could be the perfect springboard for the 20-year-old to push on with his career and MEN Sport understand Chong's representatives held talks with Bremen officials on Tuesday. It is understood that an agreement could be thrashed out by the end of the week.

German outlet BILD also quote Chong's agent Erkan Alkan as saying: “Tahith would like to join the Bundesliga. We’ll talk to Man United about it on Thursday."

The German club are bracing themselves for the departure of star winger Milot Rashica in the summer window and Bremen sporting director Frank Baumann admits Chong could be a good short-term replacement.

"We will add someone if Milot leaves us," Baumann told the WESER-KURIER. "It fits in terms of profile.

"Borrowing guys from top clubs like this can make sense to us. Because of our situation, (Chong's) a player who could be interesting."
