Werder Bremen break silence on Tahith Chong loan interest from Manchester United

Werder Bremen's sporting director Frank Baumann has revealed the club are in talks over a loan for Tahith Chong from Manchester United.

MEN Sport reported earlier this week that Chong's representatives had discussed a temporary move to the Bundesliga club, and that United officials will hold talks today (Friday).

Erkan Alkan, an agent who represents Chong was quoted as saying: “He wants to go to the Bundesliga and Bremen. He will tell that to Manchester United. The club’s plan convinced him."

And now Baumann has broken his silence on the proposed deal. He is cautiously optimistic that Bremen can seal a deal for the 20-year-old United winger, who played as a left-back in the recent 2-1 victory over LASK Linz in the Europa League.

"We are leading good conversations. Several parties are involved," he told reporters in Germany.

"There are some things which have to be settled. It will still take some time. At the moment I cannot say how likely a [loan] transfer is."

It remains to be seen if and when a deal for Chong can be struck, though it appears that United are keen to loan him out.

The Dutch wide man signed a new two-year contract extension at Old Trafford in March and featured heavily for the club's Under-23s last season, as well as making 12 senior appearances for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side.
