Darren Moore admits he cannot put his finger on why Elias Kachunga's time at Sheffield Wednesday did not go to plan but is well aware of the danger the attacker presents his side if he lines up for Bolton Wanderers tomorrow.
Kachunga spent last season at Hillsborough and played 29 times for the Owls, scoring once, as the club was relegated from the Championship.
Moore joined the Owls in March 2021 with a relatively short time to go until the end of the season, but subsequently tested positive for Covid-19 and eventually developed pneumonia because of the illness.
Moore admits he did not get a full handle on the squad he had at his disposal at that time and the Yorkshire side were relegated to League One and Kachunga was one of 14 players who left Hillsborough last summer, subsequently joining Wanderers on a two-year deal on the eve of this campaign beginning.
He has made a positive impact at Wanderers, scoring four goals in 36 games and playing a variety of roles for Ian Evatt's side in the final third.
Ahead of tomorrow's clash between the two sides at the University of Bolton Stadium, Moore has spoken on why Kachunga's time at Wednesday did not go to plan and the danger he presents should be involved for Wanderers.
He told YorkshireLive : "It could have been a number of things. There are so many different parameters in what might happen for and what might not happen for you in football.
"It was difficult for me at the time because I didn't really feel I had a handle on the squad. I came into the club and before you knew it was the end of the season.
"With my illness, I was working all summer and I remember saying at the end of that season that the work had to start then.
"I can't actually put my finger on what went wrong for Kacha but we had 14 players out of contract and it was time to move the club in a different direction. An upward and mobile position in terms of personnel.
"We know Kacha and the ability that he has and we know the attacking, advanced positions that he can pick up. If he plays tomorrow, we know what danger he presents and the ability that he has.
"We have to be on our guard but it won't be just him that we have got to look to because they have got other attacking players that carry a goal threat. It will have to be a joint effort by the squad."
