Wembley to host more than 60,000 fans for Euro 2020 semi-finals and final

Wembley will host more than 60,000 fans for the Euro 2020 semi-finals and final.

The London venue has been at 25 per cent capacity so far in the tournament, with 22,500 supporters being present for England's group stage games against Croatia and Czech Republic.

But the UK Government have confirmed the capacity for the final three games of this summer's tournament will be significantly increased.

Such is the vaccination effort in the UK, officials believe they are well placed to allow more supporters to attend the crunch fixtures.

Wembley will host the Euro semi-final matches on Tuesday, July 6 and Wednesday, July 7.

The final will be held at the 90,000-seater venue on Sunday, July 11.

Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport of the United Kingdom, Oliver Dowden said: "We are thrilled that more fans will now be able to walk through the Wembley turnstiles and enjoy the finals of #EURO2020.

"As we continue to make progress on our roadmap out of lockdown, keeping the public safe remains our top priority.

"We have worked extremely closely with @UEFA and the @FA to ensure rigorous and tight public health measures are in place whilst allowing more fans to see the action live.

"The finals promise to be an unforgettable moment in our national recovery from the pandemic."

It comes as Wales fans were told they would not be allowed to attend their side's last-16 match with Denmark in Amsterdam on Saturday.

The UK is on the Netherlands' red list, and, as such, Dutch police have stated the Red Wall will not be welcome at the Johan Cruyff Arena on Saturday.

On Wednesday, it emerged that Denmark fans would be able to attend the fixture in the Dutch capital.

The winner between Denmark and Wales will progress into the quarter-finals. The victor would play their last-eight encounter at Baku's Olympic Stadium on July 3.

England - who are already guaranteed a place in the knockouts - round off their group stage against Czech Republic at Wembley tonight.
