Chelsea coach Carlo Cudicini has compared the Wembley Stadium pitch to a potato field, claiming it is one of the worst in English football.
Tottenham continue to use Wembley as their temporary home with delays at the new stadium, and the pitch is suffering after an Anthony Joshua fight, a month of NFL fixtures, England games and Premier League football.
The former Tottenham goalkeeper, a coach at Stamford Bridge since 2016, conceded that the surface had improved in recent weeks, but that was where the compliments ended.
“It’s improved a bit, but the end remains a potato field,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport. “Playing on that pitch isn’t easy. Weird, right? Wembley used to be a temple, the English stadium par excellence.
“Now it’s one of the absolute worst. Inter will also have to deal with this problem.”
The Italian was speaking to the newspaper ahead of Inter Milan’s Champions League meeting with Spurs, but said he could offer little insight into Mauricio Pochettino’s camp given how much things have changed.
“Impossible, and not only because the squad has changed entirely,” he continued.
“Back in my day, Spurs were a club searching for a dimension. Today, they’re in the Champions League permanently, have many young players who are of a high level, and the club has widened its horizons, like the decision to restructure White Hart Lane.”
