Welsh Tory Nick Ramsay arrested and suspended following 'incident'

A Welsh Tory politician has been arrested and suspended following an 'incident', it has been reported.

It's understood Assembly Member Nick Ramsay, 44, was arrested on Wednesday evening at his home in Raglan, Usk, Monmouthshire.

On Thursday, the Welsh Conservative Party confirmed the shadow finance minister has been suspended - both from the Welsh Conservative Group at the National Assembly for Wales as well as from the Conservative Party.

Mr Ramsay was elected to the Welsh Assembly in 2007. He stood for the leadership of the Welsh Conservative Party in 2011.

He was previously Shadow Minister for Business, Enterprise, Technology and Science as well as chair of the the Business and Enterprise Committee.

A spokesman said: "Nick Ramsay has been suspended from the Welsh Conservative Group in the National Assembly for Wales following an incident which took place yesterday.

"The suspension will be reviewed following consideration of the matter by external agencies."

He added: "We will not be making any further comments at this time."

The Conservative Party and Gwent Police have been approached for comment.
