Welsh Tory Andrew RT Davies criticises Dominic Cummings and says he should have apologised

A senior Welsh Conservative has said that Dominic Cummings made the "wrong decision" should apologise.

Speaking to Piers Morgan of Good Morning Britain, former Welsh Conservative leader Andrew RT Davies said the Prime Minister's top advisor had "made the wrong decision".

For 10 days there has been sustained pressure on Boris Johnson to sack Mr Cummings after he broke the lockdown to drive to Durham. He was also criticised for going for a 60 mile round trip in the car on his wifes birthday in order to "test his eyesight".

When confronted by Mr Morgan about Mr Cummings' rule breaking and the Prime Minister's refusal to sack him, Member of the Senedd Mr Davies said: "I would have personally liked to see his senior advisor apologise for the action he undertook.

"Obviously I disagree with you that the Prime Minister is too spineless to fire him. Ultimately they have had that conversation and the Prime Minster believe that he has a role to play going forward."

He added that he felt the trip to Durham was the wrong thing to do.

"In my own view I think he took the wrong decision to travel 250 miles," he said. "That is my own personal view."

Like members of the cabinet, Cowbridge born Mr Davies did attempt to defend Mr Cummings action as not against the law.

He said: "But it is a fact that when Durham Constabulary looked into this they have said that no offence has occurred."

This response was laughed off my Piers Morgan who replied: "They didn't say that because if they had actually found him on route to his castle jolly on his wife's birthday when he was testing his eye sight with his kid in the back of the car...actually they would have turned him round and sent him home.

"So the police there made it very crystal clear that in their estimation what he did was in breach of the rules because they would have stopped him doing it.

"He has taken this country for a bunch of mugs."
