Welsh rugby star Ellis Jenkins marries singer Sophie Evans after telling everyone the wedding would be in two years

West End star, Sophie Evans, has married her childhood sweetheart, rugby player Ellis Jenkins. Confirming that the wedding had taken place, Sophie posted a photo of her new husband on her Instagram on Saturday, June 25 and captioned it: "Officially Mr and Mrs. Jenkins. 2022 is our biggest year yet. Love you so much."

This year has certainly been an eventful one for Sophie, as earlier this month, she confirmed that the two were expecting their first child. The pair were holidaying in Ibiza at the time and went on to share another post when Sophie told followers: "Dreaming of recreating this photo with our little person in two years time when we are here for our wedding" so this weekend's nuptials in Cardiff will have come as a surprise to fans of the couple.

Sophie and her new husband, Ellis, both 29, met when they were teenagers and got engaged last Christmas Day at their home in Cardiff. You can read more about that here. For the marriage ceremony, Sophie wore a beautiful and traditional white wedding dress with long lace sleeves and boddice and held a pink bouquet, whilst Ellis donned a cream jacket and waistcoat with navy trousers.

While Sophie didn't reveal any details about the big day in her post, it appears the photograph was taken against the backdrop of Cardiff's City Hall, which is a popular venue for weddings.

Tonypandy's Sophie rose to stardom as a finalist in Andrew Lloyd Webber's talent show Over The Rainbow, went on to play Dorothy in the hit stage show The Wizard Of Oz and most recently reprised her role of Glinda in smash West End hit Wicked.

The actress and singer, who found fame on BBC talent show Over the Rainbow, also appeared on Britain's Got Talent this year with group, Welsh of the West End. Making it through to the semi-finals, viewers were shocked when they didn't get through to the live final.

Ellis was cut from Wayne Pivac's Six Nations squad just four months after winning plaudits after his triumphant Test return against South Africa last autumn. He hasn't been included in the touring party to head to the home of the world champions this summer.
