Welsh rugby player scores 'genius' solo try after juggling ball using his head

The recent autumn internationals produced a plethora of scores boasting world-class quality, but arguably the best try in rugby this year belongs to a player in the top flight of Wales ' club system.

Amid the sea of stellar scores recorded over the past month, November will come to an end with Bridgend Ravens full-back Edd Howley arguably grabbing the best of the bunch.

His score was all the sweeter considering it came as Bridgend trailed Swansea late on Saturday, winning the game for the guests as they booked their place in the Welsh Premiership Cup quarter-finals.

The Ravens trailed 13-10 when Swansea grubbered into Bridgend territory, only for full-back Howley to clear with a covering kick.

The bounce looked as though it fell kindly for his Swansea counterpart, only for Howley to storm on and chip the ball once more using his head, gathering in acres of space to score unopposed:

Some fans raised suspicion with the score, suggesting the referee should have pulled play back for a knock-on, but the rule only applies to the use of one's hand or arm.

The score stood as a result, meaning the Ravens beat Swansea to the last remaining spot in the Welsh Premiership Cup's play-offs.

Howley's try was dubbed "genius" by one supporter, while another Twitter user called the piece of skills "outstanding."

Former Scotland international Jim Hamilton also tweeted footage of the sensational solo score with the caption: “'I’m telling you. I kicked the ball 30 meters. Headed it up in the air. Regathered and scored the try'.

"Everyone: 'F*** off did you'.

"Hold my beer."

The match-decider was far from Howley's only contribution to Bridgend's winning performance, either, as he also made a try-saving tackle and the break that put winger Cameron Ellis in for the game's opener.

All in all, one would call that a productive day at the office, made all the sweeter by the fact it prolonged the Ravens' hopes of advancing in the cup competition.

As is ever the case when a pioneer emerges in sport, Howley's improvisation on the fly makes one wonder why rugby stars haven't made more use of their noggins down the years.

The full-back will be under increased pressure to perform miracles when Bridgend open their Premiership campaign away to Newport, while Swansea face Aberavon on Thursday targeting a quick response.
