Welsh rugby player Aled Summerhill's brother dies suddenly on Christmas Eve as minute's silence held

A minute's silence was held before today's Welsh derby between Cardiff Blues and Dragons following the death of Blues winger Aled Summerhill's brother.

Robert Huw Summerhill died suddenly and unexpectedly on Christmas Eve, it was announced.

The tribute was impeccably observed at Cardiff Arms Park as an announcement was made on the stadium tannoy.

A statement from Cardiff Blues said: "Ahead of kick-off, we paid tribute to Robert Huw Summerhill, brother of Cardiff Blues' Aled Summerhill, who passed away on Christmas Eve. All of our thoughts are with Aled and all of Robert's family and friends during this difficult time."

Aled Summerhill wasn't due to feature in the match, which you can follow live here . The 25-year-old winger has been at the region for a number of years, particularly impressing last season with a series of try-scoring performances.

He's played nine times for the Blues so far this season, scoring four tries.

The former Wales age-grade international, from Rhondda, has also played for Pontypridd.
